Trailer Rental 101
Sun, 06/08/2008 - 23:19
The day for the big move is rapidly approaching, and you need a way to get a houseful of your things from your old house to your new house. Unless you have some unique way of fitting a sectional sofa in to the trunk of a Yugo, you are a candidate for trailer rental. If you want to save money and do all of the (LINK) packing and driving yourself instead of hiring a (LINK) moving service, trailer rental is your best option.
You will want to book your trailer plenty ahead of time to ensure that one will be available the day you plan to move. Sometimes once you get your whole house packed up and ready to be loaded into a rental truck, you find you have much more stuff than you thought. In this case, you will want to check into acquiring a rental trailer. If the truck you rent is not large enough to transport everything you need to move or if you have a motorcycle or some other large item such as appliances, you should consider moving trailer rental.
If you know ahead of time that your are going to need a rental trailer, it is best to book it at the same time you book your moving truck. Not only will you be able to get certain discounts for booking the truck and the trailer together, but also in most cases, the rental company does not keep the rental trailer on their lot, so booking together in advance will give them more time to get everything together by your scheduled day to move.
There are quite a few reasons why you would need to rent a trailer to either pull behind a rental truck or a vehicle of your own. There may not be sufficient room in the rental truck for your entire load so you will need to pull a trailer to transport everything. If you have a whirlpool or spa type bathtub, it is best to move it by trailer to prevent any damage from occurring. If you are not moving very much stuff, you can book a rental trailer to pull behind your own car or truck. Sometimes you only need a trailer for a couple of hours to move some equipment or gardening supplies from one place to another. You may want to rent a trailer for small trips where you need some way to haul your supplies that are too large to haul in your trunk. If you work in a profession such as landscaping, you may need to rent a trailer to haul equipment to a large job or a large quantity of plants or shrubbery. Rental trailers are also helpful if you are in the delivery business for jobs that are too large for your regular vehicle.
There are several different types of rental trailers available for all of you many specific needs. A spa dolly is designed specifically for transporting a whirlpool or hot tub. They also should have a wedge so you can position the tub on its side and help keep from dropping. Open trailers have sides and can be covered with a tarp when a fully enclosed trailer is not required. Van trailers are great additions to rental trucks when you need some extra space to carry the entire load. Some are even padded on the inside to help prevent damage to your furniture and belongings. Aerodynamic sport trailers are ideal for campers to carry all or their gear and camping supplies. If you are moving more than one personal vehicle at a time in order to save on gas, a vehicle trailer is a nice option. With a vehicle trailer, you can simply pull your vehicle behind the rental truck and be on your way. Recreational vehicle trailers are good for hauling motorcycles, dirt bikes, all terrain vehicles and any other large item that you cannot put inside the rental truck. These trailers are also good if you are going on a trip and going to require the use of a personal vehicle. It is very important to book a trailer that is specific to your individual needs when considering trailer rental.
